Beverley Races Full List of Free Bets A-Z of Racecourses The Beverley Races are hosted at the famous Westwood Pasture, which can be found only a short walk from the centre of the market town of Beverley. Races have been held at historic Beverley since 1690, with the first grandstand built in 1767. The success of the Beverley Races back then were no doubt boosted by Squire Watt, from the nearby town of Bishop Burton, who owned no less than four winners of the St Leger races between 1813 and 1833, which include the famous Altisidora. This fame helped to turn the public's attention to the Beverley Races, where the Squires horses often raced, and subsequently has moulded Beverley into a modest yet important venue for horse racing. Much has changed on the Beverley Races course over the years, with the most extensive changes taking place in the last five decades, bringing in many more races and more modern and desirable facilities. The views from the grandstands are spectacular, with the English countryside around the venue untouched - which helps give the Beverley Races course a real feel of racing from a bygone era. As part of the recent modernisation, the racecourse has had modern conference and event facilities added - and it not offers not only a convenient location for a seminar, but also for weddings, banquets and exhibitions. Their luxury suite, The Rapid Lad Suite, can cater up to 350 people, but they also offer smaller hospitality suites and boxes to cater even the most cosy and personal of events. The town of Beverley may be historic, but it also offers a vast range of modern facilities and accommodation - from four star hotels to bed and breakfasts. In addition to this, once the Beverley Races have finished, there are also a whole range of pubs, restaurants and cafes to explore. Although the Beverley Races are no doubt the most exciting events hosted at the Beverley Racecourse, there are also other events held at the grounds regularly that are well worth a visit. These include craft fairs, car shows, exhibitions, antique fairs, pony club rallies, car boot sales, music concerts, school balls, wedding fairs and Christmas parties. Getting There The Racecourse is one mile from the town centre of Beverley, on the Westwood. It is also a convenient 10 miles from Hull, 29 miles from York and 13 miles from the M62 itself. Travelling by car, use the Sat-Nav postcode HU17 8QZ. The Beverley Races are well signposted as you approach Beverley. If travelling by train, Beverley Station can be found on the Hull to Scarborough line, and there are frequent rail services to and from the station from all over the country. Regular bus services run from Hull city centre, Leeds, York and the surrounding area to Beverley, and as well as stopping outside Beverley Station, these buses also stop directly outside the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure at the course. If you prefer to travel by air, there are three airports close to Beverley. These include Humberside (with a 35 minute drive), Robin Hood at Doncaster (45 minutes) and Leeds/Bradford (1 hour, 15 minutes.) This has made Beverley Races very popular with both national and international visitors, who enjoy the traditional feel of the races, as well as the historic English setting. |
