Goodwood Races Full List of Free Bets A-Z of Racecourses Horse-racing was brought to Goodwood by the 3rd Duke of Richmond in 1802, and 200 years later the reputation of high quality, chic racing has made the Goodwood Races an essential course in the racing calendar. As well as this, Goodwood has been acclaimed internationally as one of the most beautiful racecourses in the world - oozing unique style and elegance. The Goodwood Races course is set on the top of the Sussex Downs, providing a backdrop of traditional English countryside, and some of the finest in flat racing. As well as this, Goodwoods is one of the greatest venues for entertaining in international sport, playing host to conferences, functions and weddings. There are three seperate enclosures available at Goodwood, these include: The Richmond Enclosure - A members enclosure open to all except during 'Glorious Goodwood', held on the 29th July to the 2nd of August 2008, when it will be closed to non-Members, allowing Members to entertain guests and corporate clients. Stands inside this enclosure include the March and Charlton Stands, and there is also access to the Winners' Enclosure. A large screen is installed which shows a close-up view of all the Goodwood Races action. Facilities include betting with Tote pools, rails bookmakers as well as William Hill and Tote Credit betting shops. Gordon Enclosure - This is the main enclosure at the Goodwood Races, and provides access to the Sussex Grandstand the Paddock. As well as this, it includes the Winners' Enclosure and the Parade ring, where the horses, jockeys and celebrities drawn to Goodwood Races can be seen up close. Facilities include the full range of betting facilities you would expect, as well as another giant screen to ensure none of the action is missed. And Lennox Enclosure - This enclosure has great views of the home straight. Facilities provided include betting, a giant screen and a variety of catering facilities - such as hot and cold snacks and bar facilities. Race goers are permitted to bring their own picnics to the Goodwood races, although alcoholic drinks are prohibited. Goodwood Races Information Because of the prestige that Goodwood carries, there are some restrictions on how race goers may dress, depending on which enclosure they choose. Gentlemen are required to wear jackets with either ties, polo neck sweaters or cravats in the Richmond Enclosure. Ladies are encouraged to wear hats. No meetings permit the wearing of fancy dress, jeans or shorts, with bare tops not permitted in any of Goodwoods enclosures. All children should be dressed smartly. There is no cash point at the Goodwood Races, although the Tote will operate a cash-back facility at certain windows. For children, there is a free supervised playground in the Lennox Enclosure which is suitable for ages 4-11. There are also crèche facilities on some Meeting days. Getting There By car, the racecourse can be found off the A27 five miles from Chichester. By rail there are regular services running to and from London Victoria to Chichester, which takes around 1 hour 40 mins. There is also the service west to Portsmouth and the coastal service east to Brighton. On race days a bus service is provided to and from the race course from the station. Please be aware that the last bus on this route leaves shortly after the last race finishes. |
