Lingfield Park Races

One of the oldest established premier racecourses in the UK, Lingfield Park, home of the Lingfield Park Races is also one of the busiest racecourses in Europe. Every year Lingfield hosts over 90 meetings, covering Turf National Hunt, Turf Flat and All-Weather Flat Racing on their impressive £3 million Polytrack. The Lingfield Park Races themselves are held in 450 acres of beautiful English countryside, right on the borders of Surrey, Sussex and Kent. Promising to be "more than just a racecourse", Lingfield Park also offers visitors a premier 18-hole golf course, a sports and leisure club and has recently been granted outline planning permission to build a luxury integrated four-star hotel in the grounds. With all these extra facilities, Lingfield can offer service on almost every type of occasion, making it one of the most convenient as well exciting racecourses available in the UK today. Lingfield Park Racecouse was opened in 1890 by the Prince of Wales (who later became King Edward VII) who allowed Lingfield to incorporate the Prince of Wales feathers in its official heading to commemorate the event. The course was initially only for jumps, but was granted permission in 1894 to operate as a flat racing venue by the Jockey Club in addition. The Lingfield Park Races have continues at Lingfield ever since, only halted by the outbreak of the Second World War, when the course was requisitioned by the War Office. Recent improvements to the course also include the separate re-laying of the back straight on the turf course in 2002/2003 and the massive £5.5 million investment in 2004 into the new grandstand at the site.
