The Racecourse

Pontefract Racecourse is well known for being the longest continuous circuit course in Europe measuring 2m and 125 yards. Pontefract races features a left handed course with a home straight measuring just over 2 furlongs. The latter part of the course is up hill which tends to suit strong horses with a lot of staying power. Bear this in mind when making your betting choices.

Racedays

Pontefract races enjoys many prestigious meetings between the months of April and October. By the end of 2008 Pontefract will have been host to over 20 full race days. If you decide to make a weekend of it you will find that there are a huge number of races held on selected weekends. If you are staying in the area there are some great hotels within a stones throw of Pontefract races. You will find a Premier Inn only 1 ½ miles from the racecourse near to the Xscape Complex.

The Costs

Tickets for Pontefract races can either be purchased via a booking over the phone or can always be bought directly at the turnstiles on the day. Various tickets are available depending on the access that you want. General grandstand and paddock access is available for only £13 rising to £20 should you wish to gain entry to the premier enclosure. If you are travelling as a group then a family ticket may be right for you. The family admission costs £16 but is only available for Sunday meetings due to the volume of guests on other days.

Annual Tickets

For those die hard racing fans out there, annual tickets are also available. Single annual memberships begin at £180 but if you wish to attend as a couple then a joint ticket may be the best option at £245. The annual ticket at Pontefract races provides full access to all enclosures and all race days throughout the year offering a great saving for every event.

Facilities

Throughout the different enclosures at Pontefract races, you will find a number of excellent facilities that are available. CCTV is in operation at every race meeting with televisions in all of the bars, restaurants and refreshment areas bringing the action closer all over the racecourse. A giant screen is also in action for every meeting and is located next to the course so you can follow the action all the way round leading up to the final straight. Disabled visitors are extremely well catered for with disabled facilities in all enclosures. This includes both toilets and viewing platforms. There are of course totesport betting facilities in every enclosure making it easy to part with your well earned cash and make your bet of choice. You will also find fast food stands in all except the Premier Enclosure serving up a number of different snacks throughout the day.

Hospitality and Dining
