Redcar Races

The Redcar Races and the Redcar Racecourse is a privately owned business and therefore not part of any group of racecourse. Because of this, they believe that their Board and Executive can provide even more to the welfare of the course and the horses - and be more committed to growing and developing the business at the Redcar Races site. This include maintaining a high standard of racing at the side at it's core, while maintaining and diversifying all the facilities they can provide at the Redcar races to ensure they bring maximum income into horse-racing as a sport, and the town of Redcar. One of the leading attractions that that little-known town of Redcar provides, the course owners are committed to raising the profile of the town, and of the Redcar Races themselves. Racing began at Redcar hundreds of years ago, and were held originally on the sands of Coatham. The current site of the Redcar Races, and the company that owns it, was founded in 1875. Ever since then, many of the worlds most famous horse racing personalities have been known to race at Redcar - from Fred Archer right through to Frankie Dettori and Lester Piggot, as well as the greatest trainers such as Noel Murless and Michael Stoute. The season at the Redcar Races begins in March and ends in October, and in that time offers 19 days of racing action.

Redcar Races Information

The course at Redcar is a left handed oval covering just over 1 ½ miles, but its key feature is the straight mile with a 3 furlong 'chute' which joins the track at the point where the top bend meets the straight. It's a relatively tight course although this is compensated by the banking featured on both bends. The Redcar Races course is well known for being a fair track - and the 'draw' has little material effect on running and the end race result in most cases. The biggest race held at Redcar is the Totepool Two Year Old Trophy, which has a minimum value of £200,000 guaranteed - which makes it one of the most valuable races in Europe of its type. All children under the age of 16 years are admitted free into the Redcar Races, as well as all the enclosures, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
