Windsor Races The Windsor Races are set on the banks of possibly the most famous river in the UK, the River Thames, and nestled in a vast and beautiful area of British countryside, with over 165 acres in total. Although the course is set in such a green and unspoilt area, the current owners of the Windsor Races have strived not to let the facilities be in-keeping with the old world setting - with some of the most modern and best facilities available such as bars, restaurants, hospitality packages, a whole host of enclosures and a high standard of conveniences for the disabled or less mobile. There are 26 race days a year held at the Windsor Races for flat racing alone, during the Windsor Races racing season from April to October. For the best days of simmer, they also hold regular Monday night evening fixtures, which are incredibly popular with the crowds - drawing thousands of race goers to these events alone. The course at Windsor is proud of its long, rich and royal heritage - the area local to the course has had links to horse racing dating right back to the reign of Henry VII, although there were no Windsor Races as such until the year 1866. When it comes to royalty, though, you can't beat the Windsor Races for the regal atmosphere - not with such a high profile next-door neighbour to the course. The races on Monday nights are not only popular with your average race goer, but are also rumoured to be a favourite for the stars, with many pop, sporting and television celebrities spotted having a flutter. There is Pimms and champagne available on the luxurious Paddock Lawn area of the course, where they are rumoured to relax by the romantic river and enjoy the stunning castle view. Windsor Races Information There are three enclosures available at Windsor - The Club Enclosure, The Grandstand Enclosure and the Silver Ring Enclosure. There are Tote betting facilities provided in all enclosures, as well as a range of food and drink options. There is only a smart casual dress code in two of these enclosures - the Club Enclosure and Restaurants, although race goers are advised to dress sensibly wherever they plan to be on the course. The dress code is strictly enforced by course staff, with access denied to those who flaunt it. No dogs are permitted in any part of the course. Getting There The course is easy to find from many major motorways, and is clearly sign posted on race days from all popular routes. If travelling by train, there are several stations that are close to the course, these being Windsor and Eton Central, Slough and Windsor and Eton Riverside. There are regular trains running from Paddington to all these stations, with taxi ranks outside ready to transport race goers. If you fancy a little luxury, there is also a river taxi service to the Windsor Races, which is in operation for all race meetings. It leaves from the Barry Avenue Promenade, found opposite Browns restaurant in the Windsor Town Centre - only a short walk away from the Windsor train stations. The boat offers a fully stocked bar - although the trip only takes around 10 minutes. |
